The additional capacity of 30 MW at Rybinskaya HPP will be provided by the power equipment of Power Machines

Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (part of the Power Machines company) manufactured a hydraulic turbine impeller for hydropower unit (HPU) No. 5 of Rybinskaya HPP. The equipment has successfully passed functional tests and is being prepared for shipment to the power plant.

The impeller was manufactured under the contract for the replacement of three units of Rybinskaya HPP, signed between Power Machines and RusHydro in 2015. The obligations of Power Machines ranged from the development, manufacture and supply of equipment for hydraulic turbines, hydrogenerators and auxiliary systems of hydropower units, as well as their installation, testing and commissioning.

The new equipment is more reliable and features improved technical and power-generating properties. The company's designers used modern and innovative design methods in their work, increasing the capacity of each hydropower unit by 18% – from 55 MW to 65 MW. In addition, the turbine impellers have an environmentally friendly design with oil-free bushings that prevent oil from entering the water.

After being upgraded by Power Machines, Hydropower Units No. 1 and No. 3 were successfully commissioned in March 2018 and December 2019 respectively. As a result, the HPP capacity increased by 20 MW.

Currently, Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod is completing the production of a guide vane and a hydraulic turbine shaft for HPU No. 5 – the rest of the equipment has been delivered to the HPP site.

Upon completion of the HPU No. 5 upgrade, and following its commissioning, the total capacity of Rybinskaya HPP will increase by 30 MW.
