"Power machines" selected the best young welders

"Power machines" held a professional skills competition among welders of the Company and educational institutions.

In the competition, held on November 20-21 on the basis of the Saint Petersburg Electric Machinery College (EMK), participated representatives of the Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (LMZ), Electrosila plant, "SMTT High Voltage Solutions" enterprise, Taganrog Boiler-Making Works "Krasny Kotelshchik", Kaluga Turbine Works, as well as students of colleges of the "Machine Building" cluster.

The participants took a theory test and performed a practical task, demonstrating their skills in two types of welding – manual and semi-automatic.

"Adding welders to the jury is a great decision. These guys have participated in similar events themselves, one of them just a couple of months ago won a similar competition at Electrosila. They were very concerned about our contestants, while paying attention and noticing the moments they had encountered earlier in the competition. The assessment of work results with the participation of welders was more complete," notes Alexey Moshkin, Chairman of the Jury, Chief Welder of the Technical Department of LMZ.

"It is very good that the selection criterion has been changed in favor of younger professionals. They should be given a chance, an impulse, their eyes are burning, such a competition can offer them much more than already established professionals," adds Maxim Agapov, a member of the jury, Chief Welder of the Electrosila plant.

Students from five colleges that are part of the "Mashinostroyenie Saint Petersburg" and "Mashinostroyenie Kaluga" clusters competed in a separate nomination: Electric Machinery College, Russian College of Traditional Culture and A. T. Karpov Kaluga Cadet Multiprofile Technical School, Izhorsky College, Industrial and Technological College named after N. I. Putilov.

It is not by chance that the contest is held at the educational institution – "Power machines" have long-standing partnership relations with the EMK. In 2022, the educational institution became a reference institution for the educational and production cluster "Machine Building" within the framework of the federal project "Professionalitet". Students of the cluster are trained under an accelerated program, have an opportunity to undergo practical training at "Power machines" plants and subsequently find employment with the group of companies.
