Power Machines finished modernizing hydropower units at RusHydro's Rybinsk HPP

The replacement of all hydropower units was finished at Rybinsk HPP following the commissioning of the station number 5 hydropower unit. The renewal of the hydropower units was carried out in accordance with the RusHydro's HPP Comprehensive Modernization Program (CMP).

A total of six hydropower units were installed at the Rybinsk HPP. As part of the modernization process, each unit had its hydroturbine, hydrogenerator, excitation system, automation system, and auxiliary equipment replaced.

The new hydropower units were produced at Power Machines factories. The equipment has improved technical and energy characteristics and is significantly more reliable. Thanks to the use of modern and innovative planning methods by designers at the Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (part of JSC Power Machines), the capacity of four hydropower units was increased by 18% (from 55 MW to 65 MW) and two of them had their capacity increased up to 63.2 MW. In addition, the turbine impellers have an environmentally friendly design with oil-free bushings that prevent oil from entering the water.

As a result of the modernization, the capacity of Rybinsk HPP was increased from 330 MW to 376.4 MW, it will grow by another ten once the hydropower unit No. 5 is relabeled.
