"Power machines" cast the first rotating blade of the hot path of GTE-65 gas turbine

"Power machines" has cast the first rotating blade of GTE-65 gas turbine, having worked out a full cycle of technology for production of hot path blade castings for power gas turbines.

To produce large-size blade castings, "Power machines" has built a high-tech complex where they introduced the technology of investment casting of blades.

The capacity of the new production facility is designed to manufacture 16 sets of cast gas turbine blades per year, with the potential to increase the capacity to 24 sets. This will ensure the required volume of blades for "Power machines" own production, as well as for the gas turbine service, including third-party production.

"The successful casting of the first stage rotating blade represents a milestone in the development of the GTE-65 gas turbine. This event was preceded by extensive efforts in organizing production capacities, as well as the creation and implementation of technology. Now, we are continuing to refine the technology and prepare the production for casting larger blades for the GTE-170 gas turbine," commented Alexander Konyukhov, General Director of JSC "Power machines".

The hot path blade is one of the most science-intensive and difficult to manufacture gas turbine components. It requires the most complex calculations in designing and high precision in manufacturing.

The blade of GTE-65 gas turbine has a complex internal cavity to realize the cooling system formed by ceramic rod. To produce cast blades, "Power machines" developed and mastered the technology, including manufacturing ceramic rods from fused quartz, pressing wax models, manufacturing of ceramic mold, its melting and casting.

All materials used in production are created by Russian enterprises on the basis of domestic experience in aviation and power gas turbine construction. New technologies introduced at JSC "Power machines" will allow to manufacture products at the level of the highest world standards.

For reference:

A strategically important project for resuming gas turbine production in Russia is being implemented by JSC "Power machines" with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

"Power machines" creates capacities to produce eight gas turbines per year. The company will also provide service of gas turbines, including third-party production, in particular, production and supply of spare parts.

Three production sites of Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and more than 1650 units of technological equipment are involved in the production of gas turbines. The Company continues to upgrade the production facilities with the equipment necessary to organize a full cycle of gas turbine manufacturing. More than 150 designers and technologists and over 1400 production specialists are working on the project.

In December 2022, "Power machines" completed production and tested the prototype model of the GTE-170 high-capacity gas turbine. The first serial gas turbine GTE-170 will be manufactured by the end of 2023.

At the same time, the company is working on the production of a highly efficient F-class medium-capacity gas turbine - GTE-65. The scheduled completion date for the prototype model of the GTE-65 gas turbine is set for 2024.
