Leningradsky Metallichesky zavod has manufactured the first Impeller for Tupalang HPP in Uzbekistan
Leningradsky Metallichesky zavod (LMZ) completed the manufacture of the first impeller as part of the Tupalang HPP modernization project. The impeller is designed for the hydropower unit (HU) No. 3. The completion of the whole set of equipment for the HU No. 3 modernization is scheduled for the second quarter of 2021.
The contract for the design, manufacture, and supply of hydraulic equipment for the four hydropower units of Tupalang HPP was concluded with JSC "Uzbekhydroenergo" in 2019 and entered into force in April 2020.
Hydro turbines and generators with a capacity of 72.5 MW will be manufactured for the HUs No. 1 and No. 2 which are under construction. In addition, the scope of supply includes electrical equipment, APCS, generator excitation systems, pre-turbine gate valves, and HPP auxiliary equipment. For the existing HUs No. 3 and No. 4 — new impellers, equipment for the modernization of turbine control systems, APCS, and excitation systems. Also, the scope of "Power machines" obligations includes pre-commissioning services for the supplied equipment.
The commissioning of the four HUs will be carried out in stages; the project is planned to be completed in 2022. The total capacity of Tupalang HPP will be 175 MW.
In the course of modernization, in addition to impeller replacement, HUs No. 3 and No. 4 will be equipped with modern turbine automation systems and automatic control of pre-turbine gate valves. The hydro turbines will be equipped with speed encoders, vibration sensors, shaft runout sensors, overspeed protection units, new instrumentation, and electrical wiring.
For reference:
The construction of Tupalang HPP is carried out in two stages. At the first stage, the HUs No. 3 and No. 4 with a capacity of 15 MW each were put into operation. The equipment was manufactured by LMZ and the Electrosila plant. At the moment, the second stage of the project is in progress —the expansion of the plant's capacity to four HUs due to the construction of two more units, No. 1 and No. 2 with a capacity of 72.5 MW, as well as the replacement of temporary impellers with standard ones and the modernization of the control systems equipment for the small HUs, No. 3 and No. 4.
