Kostromskaya TPP completed comprehensive tests of the modernized steam turbine of "Power machines"
Power unit No. 2 at Kostromskaya TPP (JSC "Inter RAO-Electrogeneration") successfully completed 72-hour tests of the "Power machines" K-330-23.5-1P steam turbine. The modernized turbine will increase the capacity of the plant unit to 330 MW. The project is implemented within the framework of the program for selection of projects for modernization.
A complete steam turbine for modernization of Kostromskaya TPP was manufactured at Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod (a part of JSC "Power machines"). The "Power machines" equipment will significantly improve the technical and economic characteristics and increase the capacity of the plant unit from 300 to 330 MW. Modern developments applied in the units will also reduce specific fuel consumption and increase the park life of the turbine by 220 thousand hours.
The contract between "Power machines" and "Inter RAO-Electrogeneration" for the modernization of four power units of Kostromskaya TPP No. 8, 4, 2 and 7 was signed in 2019 during the first wave of the modernization project selection program (COMMOD). The equipment is manufactured at the Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod, a part of "Power machines".
Earlier, the company manufactured and supplied key turbine units for power unit No. 8, commissioned in 1973 and becoming the firstborn of the COMMOD program, and power units No. 4, 7. The modernized power units No. 8 and No. 4 were launched in 2022. The service life of the supplied turbine units will be at least 40 years, and the overhaul intervals have been increased to 6 years.
Kostromskaya TPP is one of the largest thermal power plants in Russia, which has record fuel economy indicators among enterprises of its class. It ranks third in terms of installed capacity (3,660 MW) and generates about 1.5% of the total electricity produced in Russia (the plant's annual electrical supply is about 15 billion kWh).
