Power Machines and Georgian energy company “Sakenergoremonti” signed a Contract on reconstruction of turbine and generator for Gumati-1 HPP. The value of the Contract – 2,7 million US$.
Power Machines received an offer on participation in the project in December, 2004. The choice of Georgian power engineering specialist was based on experience of long-term cooperation with the Power Machines’ enterprises and successful operation of the Company’s equipment in a power system of Georgia.
The equipment for the existing plant was manufactured by Tampella, Finland (four hydro turbines with the 11,5 MW capacity) and by Siemens-Shukert, Austria (four hydrogenerators) at the end of 1950-s. Power Machines’ experts carried out an examination of the equipment that has shown, that some equipment partially does not work or works with smaller capacity, is morally obsolete and demands to be fully replaced.
For reconstruction of Gumati-1 HPP Power Machines will design and manufacture hydro turbine with the new highly effective rotary-blade runner of 3,0 m in diameter and generator stator.
Reconstruction will allow to rehabilitate operating reliability of the plant and to ensure nominal capacity of the power unit. In accordance with the contract Power Machines also will carry out assembling and precommissioning. In July, 2006 Power Machines will start supplying of the equipment.
Successful execution of the contract will allow Power Machines to participate in new projects – Gumati-1 and Gumati-2 HPP’s (reconstruction of six turbines), Vardnili HPP and Shaori HPP (reconstruction).
Gumati-1 HPP and Gumati-2 HPP create cascade of Gumati HPP’s located downstream of the river Rioni.
Gumati-2 HPP of the Gumati HPP’s cascade was put into operation in 1956. Its installed capacity is 22,8 MW (3 x 7,6 MW). The equipment for the existing plant was manufactured by Voith and Siemens-Shukert (Austria).
