Power Machines manufactures and freights unique hydroelectric equipment to Boguchanskaya HPP

Power Machines has completed manufacture and freight of three working wheels which are unique for their high end characteristics for the hydroturbines of the Boguchanskaya HPP.

The hydroturbines manufactured by Power Machines for Boguchanskaya HPP is one of the largest in terms of volume and dimensions among those hydro turbines produced in Russia in the past ten years. The diameter of each working wheel is 7.86 meters and weighs 155.6 tons. By its dimensions the hydro turbines designed for Boguchanskaya HPP exceed the main components of the hydroelectric stations of the legendary Sayano-Shushenskaya and Krasnoyarskaya HPP.

The transport operation for delivering the heavy freight to the hydro station will be carried out by the only possible means – by sea and will take 35-40 days. The length of the journey comprises approximately 6500 km. The vessel goes along lakes Ladoga and Onega, then across the White Sea – Baltic Sea Channel into the White Sea and further along the North Sea Route, Yenesei to Krasnoyarsk. In Krasnoyarsk the equipment will be loaded onto a river vessel which will deliver the freight to the construction site for the dam on Angara River. Previously, in autumn 2008 a similar method was used for delivering the first working wheel to Boguchanskaya HPP by Power Machines.

According to the conditions of the project Power Machines provides the designing, manufacturing and supply to Boguchanskaya HPP of nine hydroturbines and nine hydrogenerators with a nominal capacity of 333 MW each. The equipment will be delivered to the customer before 2012. Furthermore, Power Machines will provide for the assembly and launch of the delivered equipment.

At present manufacturing is occurring at branches of the energy equipment company for five hydroturbines and the fourth and fifth hydrogenerators. Participation in the construction of the Boguchanskaya HPP is the second largest, behind that of Bureiskaya HPP undertaken in Russian hydroelectrical power market in the past twenty years.

Boguchanskaya HPP on the Angara River is the largest energy facility in Russia. At the same time the construction of the station, including the concrete dam with a total length of 2.5 km, is one of the largest in the world. The launch of Boguchanskaya HPP will enable the active development of the lower Angara Region and development of the richest natural resources of Evenkiya.
