After modernization work performed by Power Machines, the fourth hydropower plant has been put into operation at the Iron Gate-1 in Serbia.
The contract for performing a package of work aimed at renovating some of the existing hydraulic equipment and increasing its capacity was signed between Power Machines, the Serbian Electric Utilities enterprise, and the Iron Gate business company in 2003. The turbines and generators that were operated at the Iron Gate-1 HPP before the renovation were made during the period from 1970 to 1972, by the Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and Electrosila plants, members of Power Machines. Decades of the units' operation made the Serbian partners interested in the HPP’s refurbishment, by the manufacturer of the original equipment.
At present, four out of six Iron Gate-1 HPP hydraulic power unit have been put into operation within the framework of the contract’s implementation by Power Machines. The work’s completion is scheduled for 2020.
After renovation, the hydropower units’ capacity will be increased from 174 to 201 MW, and the service life of the HPP equipment will have been prolonged by 30 years. This will increase annual electric energy output to 500 mln. kWh.
