In Serbia, at the Iron Gate (Djerdap)-1 HPP, the fifth hydraulic unit modernized by Power Machines has been put into operation.

The Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia Alexander Antich, the Acting Director of the public enterprise Elektroprivreda Srbije Milorad Grcic and the Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Bocan-Harchenko took part in the grand launch ceremony of the renewed hydraulic unit.

The contract for the renovation with an increase in capacity of the main equipment of the six units of the Iron Gate (Djerdap)-1 HPP, was signed between Power Machines, Elektroprivreda Srbije, and Iron Gate (Djerdap) Economic Society.

As of today, five of the six hydraulic units have been successfully put into operation, and the manufacturing of equipment for the last unit is in its final stage. The completion of the project is scheduled for 2021.

As a result of the work, the operation lifespan of each updated unit was extended by 30 years, and the capacity was increased from 174 to 201 MW.

During modernization, Power Machines manufactured new units for turbines and generators, equipped the units with modern turbine control systems and generator excitation systems. Part of the equipment was modernized at the Power Machines production facilities in St. Petersburg.

The former units of the Iron Gate (Djerdap)-1 HPP were manufactured in the 1970s by the Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and Electrosila, which are currently a part of PJSC, "Power machines". Decades of successful operation of the units have ensured interest on the part of Serbia in the fact that their modernization is carried out by the original equipment manufacturer.
