Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, reconstructed with the participation of Power Machines OJSC, reached its full capacity

On the 12th of November, a ceremony of commissioning of the tenth hydraulic unit of Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP took place. Generating set hall equipment was manufactured by Power Machines OJSC. After commissioning of the tenth hydraulic unit with station number 2 Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP reached its nominal capacity of 6,400 MW.

Main power production equipment manufacturing contract for the purpose of reconstruction of Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP was concluded between Power Machines OJSC and RusHydro OJSC in November 2009. In the shortest time possible, ahead of contract schedule, Power Machines facilities manufactured ten hydroturbines with hydraulic turbine generators capacity of 640 MW each, also with feed systems for them. Contract value amounted to RUB 11.7 bln (VAT excluded).

Power Machines also supplied an automated technological process control system (ATPCS) and provided mounting supervision and commissioning services for all the supplied equipment.

Now the power plant is equipped with new, up-to-date equipment of advanced performance characteristics meeting all reliability and safety requirements. New units’ life cycle is increased up to 40 years, while hydroturbine maximum efficiency ratio makes 96.6%.

Unique project peculiarity involves an automated hydraulic unit monitoring and control system designed by Power Machines. Each hydraulic unit is equipped with hundreds of sensors, their data being processed by automated control system. In the event of any disturbance in hydraulic unit operation the automated system cuts off water supply and stops the set altogether. “This is a major hydro power plant automation project, not comparable to anything in the world. Electric equipment monitoring system of the plant has a critical goal of providing safe operation,” remarked Power Machines OJSC CEO, Igor Kostin.
