Power Machines OJSC have successfully accomplished a major project for implementation of К-200-130 steam turbines for four power units of the Bulgarian Maritsa-Iztok-3 TPP.
Contract for the steam turbines modernization was concluded in 2002 by Power Machines OJSC and RWE Company of Germany (present-day E&Z), member of the international consortium specially established for the project implementation. The cost of contract amounts to approximately €20 mln.
Under the contract Power Machines designed, fabricated and delivered to the Plant site four packages of power-generating equipment intended for the turbines modernization, implemented a project for modernization of the pipelines and provided installation and adjustment supervision services. As a result of the modernization undertaken capacity of each TPP power unit increased from 200 to 227 MW.
As of the moment of writing all the power units to have undergone modernization have been taken over by the Customer and commissioned for commercial operation on the terms of aftersale maintenance by Power Machines.
Due to the modernization Maritsa-Iztok-3 TPP has become Bulgaria’s most technologically advanced power plant in terms of cost-efficiency and degree of automation. Operating on inferior grade high-sulphur coals, the station is example of an environmentally friendly facility fully complying with the currently applicable European standards.
Currently Power Machines are involved in modernization of two power units of another Bulgarian power plant - Maritsa-Iztok-2 with Saint Petersburg machine builders busy manufacturing two hydrogen-and-water cooled turbine generators, 220 MW each, for the needs of the project. Deliveries of the first and the second turbine generators have been scheduled for 2009 Q4 and 2010 Q2 accordingly.
