In April 2003 Power Machines in a consortium with "ICA" and "La Nacional ", largest Mexican construction companies, and the Federal Electricity Committee of Mexico signed a contract for the construction of El Cajon HPP on the “turn-key basis". The price of the contract amounted to 750 million US$, share of Power Machines exceeds 140 million US dollars.
According to the Contract Power Machines will supply the full volume of electromechanical and auxiliary equipment for the two hydro power units (2 x 375 МW). Design works, production, installation and testing of the equipment will be carried out by Power Machines (two hydrogenerators) and by the power equipment manufacturers from Ukraine and Brazil (hydroturbines, hydromechanical and auxiliary equipment).
It is the most powerful hydrogenerator, ever supplied by Power Machines for foreign hydro power plants.
Hydrogenerators for El Cajon HPP are designed to the improved technical characteristics. In particular, at customer’s demand voltage of the generator can be increased up to 17 kilovolt compared to traditional 15, 75. The rated power of each machine will be 375 MW, maximum power - 416,7 MW, diameter of the casings will be 13,8 m, and height - 4,4 m. Hydrogenerators of such height have been designed by Power Machines for the first time.
Now the second generator is being manufactured, it should be completed by autumn of the current year. At the same time the deliveries of the subcontractors’ equipment and assembling works are carried out. Power Machines will deliver the equipment for machine hall by the end of 2005.
El Cajon HPP will be put into operation in 2007.
Construction of El Cajon HPP is the largest project during all term of presidential board of Vinsente Fox Kesada in Mexico, and for Power Machines - the first project in this country after an eight-year break. Earlier, in 1992-1995, Power Machines supplied turbines, generators and other equipment for Mexican Aguamilpa HPP and Huites HPP. The supplied equipment was proved positively and received Federal Electricity Committee of Mexico Certificates "The Reliable supplier".
Today Power Machines plans to participate in tenders on construction of new hydro power plants in Mexico, largest of which - La Parota HPP (3 x 300 MW).
