An official ceremony of loading of the first consignment of large sized equipment produced by Power Machines for Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, RusHydro JSC on board ship was held as part of the 5th Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Igor Sechin, Chairman of the Board of RusHydro JSC Evgeny Dod, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Power Machines OJSC Alexei Mordashov, General Director of Power Machines OJSC Igor Kostin and representatives from a number of Russian government bodies, design and construction organisations and scientific institutes.
The heavy parts for the SSHPP hydro units were loaded on a river-sea class vessel on Sverdlovskaya Embankment in Saint Petersburg. Transportation of the first three sets of large sized equipment, each containing a hydro turbine impeller (weight – 145 tons, diameter – 6.84 m), a oil-bath of the generator thrust bearing (weight – 21 tons, diameter – 6.1 m) and a 13 ton frame of an auxiliary generator rotor, diameter 6.09 m, is going to be carried out the only possible way, by sea and river during the 2011 summer navigation period.
Shipment of the first consignment of the new equipment will take 35–40 days.
The vessel loaded with the heavy hydro units passes through Lake Ladoga and Onega. Then it sails through the White Sea Baltic Sea Canal into the White Sea and then along the Northern Sea Route to the mouth of the Yenisei River. The vessel then sails along the Yenisei to Krasnoyarsk. At the Krasnoyarsk river port the equipment is going to be loaded onto a river barge which passes Krasnoyarsk HPP using the ship lift and, with the help of a river tug, delivers the consignment to the quay (transfer point) in the lower pool of Mainskaya HPP (down the Yenisei, 21.5 km from SSHPP). The equipment is then to be loaded onto special vehicles, which is going to deliver the hydro units to the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP installation site. The route’s total length is almost 5900 km. More information on the operation for delivering the new equipment can be found on the website of RusHydro JSC, Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP at: http://www.sshges.rushydro.ru/press/video/info/14969.html
Power Machines have already produced and supplied a part of the hydro turbine and hydro generator equipment for the first two hydro units of SSHPP to the station. Loading of the third hydro generator is currently being completed and units of the third hydro turbine are still being loaded. At the same time, equipment for the fourth and fifth hydro units is being manufactured at the Power Machines production sites . Units are loaded as soon as they are ready.
The contract tor produce the main energy equipment for restoring Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP was signed by Power Machines and RusHydro JSC in November 2009. In accordance with the contract Power Machines are to produce ten hydro turbines and nine hydro generators with a capacity of 640 MW, as well as six excitation systems. In addition, Power Machines specialists are going to provide services for installing the equipment, including installation supervision and commissioning work. The contract is worth 11.7 billion roubles (exc. VAT). In total, Power Machines are going to produce hydro power equipment for five hydro units of the restored station this year.
The service life of the new hydro units is extended to 40 years and hydro turbine efficiency is 96.6%. Power and cavitational properties shall be improved. Turbines will also be equipped with a more efficient technological protection system, that automatically brings the units to shutdown if unacceptable operation deviations arise in the controlled parameters.
Previously, to overhaul hydro units which had survived the accident at SSHPP, Power Machines produced and supplied excitation system equipment sets for hydro units Nos. 6, 5 and 4 as well as a new hydro generator and excitation system equipment set to replace the damaged generator of the hydro unit No. 3. Hydro units Nos. 6 and 5 were restored and put into operation ahead the schedule completion date - in February – March 2010. Start-ups of the hydro units Nos. 4 and 3, according to the SSHPP overhal schedule approved by the Russian Ministry of Energy, took place in August and December 2010.
In 2011 RusHydro JSC proceed to implement the second stage of Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP overhal. In this stage ten completely new hydro units are going to be installed in the turbine hall. At the same time, four machines brought back into operation in 2010 after overhaul works are going to be replaced by new ones. The first new hydro unit (station number 1) is planned to be commissioned, in accordance with the SSHPP the overhaul schedule, in December 2011. From 2012 to 2014 three hydro units are to be put into operation in the station turbine hall each year. Therefore, by 2014 Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP will have been completely reconditioned with new and state-of-the-art equipment which meets all reliability and safety requirements.
