The conference “Partnership of School and Business” was held for the first time in Saint Petersburg within the framework of the Program for development of the labor market in Saint Petersburg in 2006 – 2015. The conference was held on May 4, 2007 in the premises of OJSC “Power Machines” (the Electrosila Branch) with the assistance of the Committee for Education of the Government of Saint Petersburg. Directors of 30 schools, lyceums and professional colleges from the Moskovsky, Vyborgsky, Nevsky, Kalininsky, Krasnogvardeisky and Frunzensky Districts of Saint Petersburg participated in the conference.
The objective of the conference was to elaborate the principles and mechanisms of efficient cooperation between educational establishments and business which could enhance the quality of professional education and help schools to teach students those skills actually demanded by the labor market.
“Our company is interested in employing the graduates of professional education establishments which are better adapted to the actual labor conditions” says Igor Dubinnikov, Administrative Director of OJSC “Power Machines. “This can be achieved only through efficient cooperation between educational establishments and business. Our specialists can assist with making necessary amendments to the educational programs and even teach certain subjects related to particular professions. I believe that such dialog should be put into a system.”
Within the framework of the conference the management of OJSC “Power Machines” shared their experience in the cooperation with professional education establishments and told about the basic educational establishment of OJSC “Power Machines” – the Electromechanical Engineering Lyceum – which establishment had become a good example of successful cooperation.
As of 2004 OJSC “Power Machines” has been participating in the long-term municipal program of co-financing of professional technical education. Jointly with professional schools and colleges the company is elaborating the educational program which is to meet the requirements of particular industries, organizes professional, technological and pre-diploma practice for students, assists with employment of graduates, equips the college-based workshops with contemporary educational equipment.
In addition to the above OJSC “Power Machines” participates in the pilot program of the Committee for Economic Development and Industry of the Government of Saint Petersburg for training and re-training of personnel for work at the enterprises in the advanced technological industries in the Saint Petersburg area.
At the close of the conference the management of OJSC “Power Machines” and the Committee for Education of the Government of Saint Petersburg executed a Letter of intent declaring the mutual interest of the parties in the development of cooperation between the company and educational establishments aimed at training more skilled specialists demanded by the Russian industry.
