After the reconstruction, a hydropower unit with station number 7 was put into operation at the Volzhskaya HPP. This is the second hydropower unit of the plant updated in 2019; reconstruction of hydropower unit number 3 was completed in March.

Turbine, generator, excitation system and auxiliary equipment were replaced in the course of work. The new hydropower unit was manufactured at the enterprises of the Russian concern Power Machines. Now 19 hydraulic turbines and 12 generators out of 22 have already been replaced at the plant. The equipment is being upgraded as part of the RusHydro Comprehensive Modernization Program (CMP).

"The commissioning of each new hydropower unit is a significant contribution to ensuring the reliability and safety of plant equipment. It is also important to note that during the upgrade of the hydropower unit number 7 we completed a seven-year project for the replacement of excitation systems of all generators at the Volzhskaya HPP. As a result, we have increased the operational characteristics of our hydrogenerators, the reliability and efficiency of their operation in various modes" noted Sergey Bologov, Director of the Volzhskaya HPP.

Modernization plans for the Volzhskaya HPP in 2019 envisage the commencement of work on the replacement of hydropower unit number 18 and the renewal of gallery of equipment at the HPP building. The replacement of the gates of the spillway dam and the plant auxiliaries will be continued.
