Assembly of the first Russian circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler with supercritical steam parameters has been completed at Unit 9 of Novocherkasskaya TPP. The equipment has been designed, manufactured and supplied by the Taganrog Boiler-Making Works «Krasny Kotelshchik» owned by Power Machines and Amec Foster Wheeler (Great Britain). Currently, pre-commissioning activities are conducted at the TPP.
Despite the higher cost of boiler equipment of such type, CFB boilers have a number of advantages. Firstly, they are environmentally friendly, which is achieved by the use of highly efficient multipolar electrostatic precipitators for cleaning of flue gases from dust, whose performance factor virtually equals 100%. Thus, specific dust emissions will not exceed 50 mg/nm3 at the Russian standard of 150 mg/nm3.
Besides, a CFB boiler is cost-effective, since it has a higher performance factor when operating with low-grade power fuel due to the fact that unburnt fuel particles are returned to the combustion chamber and mixed with a new fuel basket. It is also important that the CFB technology allows using low-grade fuel with high ash content.
Therefore, the commissioning of Unit 9 with 330 MW of power will exceed the characteristics of Novocherkasskaya TPP and provide a new reference for the Taganrog works. We remind that eight units with 300 MW of power per unit are functional at the plant. Boilers of all the eight units were manufactured by «Krasny Kotelshchik».
